My Maths Goals

MATHS REFLECTION

Today we had a visitor named Miss pie who came in and helped us learn different strategies to answer a question that was connected to fractions. We got in groups of 4 and we got a question each to answer as a group, she gave us some challenging questions to answer but as a group we finally got the answer. As we were learning more things in our session with her we started to understand what we were reading and what ways we can solve the problem.

My groups question was we had to equally share 15 bars of chocolate between 8 people, we solved it as a team by giving each person 1 whole bar of chocolate so that's 15-8=7.Then we had 7 bars of chocolate left that we had to divide for 8 people so we got 4 chocolate bars from the 7 and divided them into halves which means that each person now has 1 hole and ½.What was left was 3 bars of chocolate left so we divided 2 of the 3 and cut them into quarters and then we cut the last bar that was left over into ⅛ and all together they got 1 ⅞ equally between the 8 of them.

 OUR MATHS PROBLEM

The teacher were planning the student's school camp. For their activities student were put into groups of different sizes depending on the activities for that day. They were given bars of chocolate as a snack. Seven bars to the four children going kayaking Nine bars to the five children going to the swimming hole Fifteen bars to the eight children going to orienteering Eight bars to the five children going on a bush walk Was this fair way to share out the chocolate bars? How much chocolate did each group get? Which group got the best deal?
